March To Fuzz, released after Mudhoney went on hiatus in 2000, is a sprawling behemoth of an album, showcasing the almighty Mudhoney in all their scuzzy, unpolished, unparalleled glory.
March To Fuzz, housed in a lovely double digipak, collects one disc of Mudhoney's finest material, and another of b-sides and rarities.
Cynics may say it shows a lack of artistic growth, but the fact that, to the uninitiated, all 22 selections on the best-of section sound like they were virtually from the same time period, shows a resistance of change, and an unwillingness to compromise their signature sound.

When it comes to design quality, it is usually a good idea to go straight to the top and back your product with the likes of experience, much like the people who created Wacky Putty (a shameless rip-off of Silly Putty) did when coming up with their new formula.
The shorter top tube on the Fuzz may bind up a few of you taller riders but it, along with its Fuzz picked specs, felt good on the dirt and with the help of its Maxxis tires, handles awesome.
Although we never got a chance to try, the Fuzz looks more than willing to take on a set of pegs, and Fuzz himself has shown that his bike can earn its keep on the street and in parks as well.

village voice > music > Fu Manchu King of the Road; Mudhoney March to Fuzz by Milo Miles
Superficially, Mudhoney's two-CD career retrospective, March to Fuzz, and Southern Cal stoner-rock primordials Fu Manchu's seventh album, King of the Road, are kindred chunks of hardrock slabbage.
But where March to Fuzz is a tombstone for trash worship, King of the Road is a landmark in an admittedly dwarfish style.
March to Fuzz is that songs intended by their creators to be junk are somehow not eminently worthy of being cast aside.

March To Fuzz, the band's new release on Sub Pop records, includes 52 tracks tracing Mudhoney's evolution from MC5 and Stooges influenced fuzz to the more mature and blues influenced punk of their later albums.
Of the many bands that emerged from the Northwest's grunge explosion, Mudhoney may be the most under appreciated and least commercially successful, but they are also one of the few who survived with their integrity intact and who continue to produce high quality rock and roll.
The first 22 tracks of the aptly titled March to Fuzz are culled from Mudhoney's six LPs, ranging from Superfuzz Bigmuff plus Early Singles in 1988 and their 1989 self-titled album to the critically acclaimed Tomorrow Hit Today of 1999.

Music: Rhythm and Views (Tucson Weekly . 05-01-00)
And March To Fuzz goes to prove it over two splendid, riff-spewing discs of hits, rarities, B-sides, covers and all sorts of musical haberdashery courtesy of these certifiable godfathers of grunge.
But their fuzzed-out vocals, garage-rock edge and shared affection for second-hand blues progressions (read: Mountain, Blue Cheer, Stooges, etc.) is what set them apart from the commercially more successful grunge-posturing pack from the Pacific Northwest who were adored by millions.
March To Fuzz validates Mudhoney as the one grunge group who deserves further scrutiny.

Not Counting Niggers: Whose Streets? Who Cares?
Let us March!" chanted Saturday afternoon's crowds at 1st & Spring, after briefly taking to the streets then being unceremoniously corralled onto the sidewalks.
Instead of letting them march, though, the fuzz (aided by, I kid you not, reinforcements called in from Tukwila) split them off into ever-smaller enclaves of ever-more-frustrated would-be street-marchers.
But exactly what the protesters hoped to accomplish with yet another wimpy march through downtown was unclear.

 Mudhoney
March to Fuzz is a double CD set of greatest hits from a band that never had hits, plus some rarities and b-sides.
They started out by releasing a firebomb of a first single and the finest grunge song ever, 1988's "Touch Me I'm Sick." This was the blueprint of the band's future, forcing punk and metal to (coexist) on equal terms with primal screaming and the scraping, bluesy twin guitars of Mark Arm and Steve Turner.
While Mudhoney never reached the stardom of their grunge peers, March demonstrates that they were certainly deserving.

Having met Raudebaugh previously as well as having witnessed his set from the Rock.Register.Vote show hosted at the Temple Club in September, I was aware that he was not exactly a conventional singer/songwriter, yet I was still unprepared for some of the more adventurous moments on this album.
While the album may be a tad uneven and lack the consistency to warrant raves, its high points are capable of catching the most jaded of ears off guard.
You can see for yourself on Thursday, March 24, when Raudebaugh is set to release his album with a set at the Temple Club, opening for the Fuzz (which features his brother Brandon on bass) and the Mosquitoes, a bossanova indie trio from New York that has been developing quite a buzz of its own.

Naturally, the anthems are included on March to Fuzz, as are a staggering 50 other songs.
Of course, it's impossible to overlook the fact that March to Fuzz stumbles into the same pitfall that so many previous "best of" packages before it have been laid to rest in: if you want an introduction to an album-oriented band like Mudhoney, you're probably going to be better off listening to...

Motörhead's overwhelmingly loud and fast style of heavy metal was one of the most groundbreaking styles the genre had to offer in the late '70s.
Spacemen 3 were psychedelic in the loosest sense of the word; their guitar explorations were colorfully mind-alterating, but not in the sense of the acid rock of the '60s.

Hard to believe, in retrospect, that Mudhoney has survived long enough to put out the 53-song, two-disc compilation "March to Fuzz." The collection finds the band -- which has not broken up, incidentally, though they are down to two of the four original members -- in fine, still unhinged form.
On "March to Fuzz," Arm wastes little time in articulating the band's pointed desperation.

Now, every recorded reason Mudhoney mattered has been compiled and summarized on one CD -- the first half of the glorious new two-disc retrospective March to Fuzz (Sub Pop).
The retrospective's second disc collects the "rarities," 30 stray tracks and digressions of less cogent purpose, less certain joy.
But since Mudhoney's sound rarely changed, that hardly matters, though it is odd to come upon their first and defining single, "Touch Me I'm Sick," at track 14.

Rising from the ashes of garage punkers Green River, Mudhoney were all about power chords and fuzz distortion, taking their cue from such early-`70s proto punks as the Stooges and Alice Cooper.
With attitude and energy taking precedence over instrumental wizardry (courtesy of guitarist Steve Turner), and Mark Arm`s snide vocal delivery and un-amused lyrics, Mudhoney were one of the quintessential garage rock bands of all time.
After going on hiatus in 2000, the band issued its first best-of collection, the double-disc set MARCH TO FUZZ.

I've been listening to a sampler disc from March to Fuzz, the band's upcoming two CD/three record collection of greatest hits and rarities, and I must say, the stuff that people always talk about as being their best songs are really good.
Basically, Mudhoney seem to be one of those bands who hit their stride in the early '90s, and have slowly gone downhill from there.
