  Club History
The building of this small depot at Marchwood may have appeared insignificant in the grand scale of things but its role was to prove important during its 146 year life.
By the start of the 1850s, activity at Marchwood appears to have diminished, as between October 1850 and March 1854, the magazines were empty and depot houses were let to coast-guards and civilians.
In January 1876, when Marchwood was well stocked and fears were at their worst, the Committee for the Transport and Storage of Powder was petitioned and the removal of the depot was demanded.

Marchwood is set fair to get its own millennium dome.
The Marchwood incinerator is sized to accept 165,000 tonnes of waster per year, and generate sufficient electricity to export 14 MW to the local Grid - enough to power 14,000 homes.
Designed to serve the needs of the south west of the county, it is one of three energy recovery incinerators that will make up part of the new waste infrastructure for the county - as conceived in the waste strategy Project Integra.

In 1943 the little-known port of Marchwood was born on the far side of Southampton Water in Hampshire.
Marchwood is home to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary's five landing ships, perhaps most famously the Sir Tristram - nearly sunk by Argentine bombs in the Falklands - and the Sir Galahad.
Her first job was to carry the equipment for UK troops being sent to Macedonia to protect the OSCE peace monitors then operating in Kosovo.

At the Marchwood pontoon there was a good breeze blowing over the water but this disappeared as one walked up the gangway ashore.
Although Marchwood is opposite the Container Port it was a very peaceful setting with it’s giant cranes pointing skyward and the big boat movements far enough away to just rock the pontoon.

Since the site was decommissioned and closed the historic buildings have fallen into disrepair and a number still need new uses to give them a new lease of life.

Hampshire Waste Services, the private waste recycling and disposal contractor, has confirmed its delight with the approval by Hampshire County Council of its plans to build a new generation energy from waste incinerator on the waterside near Marchwood, Southampton.
The state of the art plant, housed in an aluminium clad dome and set in an industrial area at Marchwood Industrial Park, has received unexpected but welcome support for its innovative design from the local community during public consultations, and has also been endorsed by local councillors.
The 36 metre high dome will house all the equipment of the plant under its 110 metre diameter, with two chimneys rising from its centre to a height of 65 metres - making it smaller in height than the previous power station on the site.
