Marci X sat on studio shelves for quite some time before being dumped in the middle of August, both not very good signs.
Sheltered Marci Feld (Kudrow) finds herself in the middle of this political brouhaha because she is the daughter of Ben Feld (Richard Benjamin, Lift, Deconstructing Harry), who owns the record label Dr. S is on.
This is a wake up call to Marci, and she decides to go to Dr. S and ask him to change his lyrics, because they are so naughty.

Marci Feld (Lisa Kurdrow) is the pampered grown daughter of Ben Feld (Richard Benjamin), the mega-wealthy owner of a record label who has just come under fire by Senator Mary Ellen Spinkle (Christine Baranski) for releasing the latest album of raunchy rapper Dr. $ (Damon Wayans).
In one uproarious moment, Marci hosts a benefit for children who have lost all feeling in their arms, a very real affliction that is more than proven when two kids on display are poked with forks.
As Marci, who learns that there is more to life than clinging to the heels of her father, Kudrow is spunky, likable, andin one particular scene she plays with disheveled hair and no make-up except smeared mascarahas never been more beautiful.

One last incredible thing; 'Marci X' was produced by Paramount Pictures, and mercifully ignored by most audiences who just didn't notice its theatrical release in America.

One of their holdings is a recording subsidiary that promotes extreme gangster rap, and is being threatened with a boycott by Senator Spinkle (Christine Baranski).
"Marci X" has the seed of a good film but falls flat with the evolution of the story and some of the casting, most notably Damon Wayans.
The one saving grace for "Marci X" is that it does "try" to make us think and there are a few laughs here and there.

In the case of Marci X, my paper was filled, though not with pros and cons regarding the movie but rather a list of things that might be more enjoyable than sitting through it.
That said, Marci X does get a very tiny amount of credit for having at least a few lines that are not in bad taste, but rather terrifically dark in humor.
Marci X is a painful and all together horrifying mess of a motion picture.

Many of the characters in Marci X are based on real-life people.
All the roles are well cast and performed except for Christine Baranski's vindictive senator (if you want a hint of what a Joe Lieberman presidency would be like, watch Baranski's scenes) it's so half-baked and overacted that she could be a contender for the Grayson Hall Memorial Award.
I mention this because the main weakness of Marci X is that Paul Rudnick's screenplay doesn't go as far as it should.
