ET may soon be 8th member of CPLP
Lisbon, 11 Aug (Lusa) - The executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, Marcolino Moco, said in Lisbon on Monday that East Timor could soon become the community's eighth member state.
Moco made the forecast in reaction to Portugal's recent "victory" in talks with Indonesia under the auspices of the United Nations about the political future of the occupied territory.
Moco said the talks had shown that Indonesia was now "more flexible" about the issue of East Timor, namely because of its own internal contradictions and the "heroic fight" of the East Timorese people, apart from the "persistance of the Portuguese diplomacy and international pressure on Jakarta".

The sacking of the Prime Minister, Marcolino Moco, by President dos Santos had been predicted by analysts during the previous month.

Whilst the President put the economic crisis in the context of the return to war after UNITA rejected the results of the 1992 elections, he also firmly placed blame upon the influence of speculation and illegal diamond mining on the economy.

The changes to the Central Committee and Politburo seemed to signal an organisational strengthening of Dos Santos’s hold over the party, and the marginalisation of his principal critics.
