[[5]] On July 18 of 390 BC a Gallic raiding horde destroyed a Roman army at the Allia River, a tributary of the Tiber, occupied and sacked Rome.
In the first century BC the polymath Varro calculated the date which converts to 390 BC; his calculation was accepted by Livy (5.30-55).
Lepidus (great-nephew of the triumvir of the same name) had been Tiberius' brother-in-law, as each was married to a Vipsania, daughter of Agrippa.

In their last counsel before Galainus left, Marcus and he agreed it was better to take the main road than to wonder about the conditions on the less-travelled route through Brixellum and a ferry across the rain-flooded Padus.
Marcus explained all of this was part of his testing and training.
It was apparently lost near Timacum Minus[39] on the road from the goldsmiths and mints in Aureliana[40] to the provincial town of Nissus[41] in Moesia[42] earlier during the reign of Marcus Aurelius.

This thoroughfare is known in the specialist literature as the Via Flaminia ‘minor’ (or ‘altera’ or ‘secunda’) to distinguish it from its predecessor of the same name built in 220 BC by the consul’s father to connect Rome and Ariminum (Rimini).
At the same time as the Flaminia minor was being built, the other Roman consul sitting in 187 BC, Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, undertook construction of the Via Aemilia (modern via Emilia) from Rimini to Piacenza, still one of the main road arteries in Italy today.
These markers, which were found close to one another, date to 175 BC and were situated on the Via Emilia, although the distances from Rome chiselled into them are discordant.
