The area constituting Mardan district is a part of the Peshawar valley, which first appears in the history as part of the Gandhara kingdom.
The district lies from 34° 05’ to 34° 32’ north latitudes and 71" 48’ to 72° 25’ east longitudes.
It is bounded on the north by Buner district and Malakand protected area, on the east by Swabi and Buner districts, on the south by Nowshera district and on the west by Charsadda district and Malakand protected area.

Similarly, the total irrigated area of the district is 204,005 acres and the canal irrigated areas is 183,695 acres while the non-irrigated area as per the report of the agriculture department is 75,573 acres and the area not available for cultivation is 92,859 acres.
As Mardan has the most fertile land and a vast majority of the division is engaged in the agriculture sector, the establishment of a full-fledged agricultural university in Mardan or Swabi is a genuine demand of the people of the area.
As Mardan is providing billions of rupees to the provincial as well as federal governments, it is imperative upon the government to give due share to Mardan so as to bring this historic and important district on a par with the developed districts of the country.

MARDAN, 30 Jul 2003 (IRIN) - At the age of 27, Bak Sitara, a resident of Paluderi village in the district of Mardan in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), is already a mother of three, and has endured the tragedy of two stillbirths.
The NCHD is tackling this serious problem in the district and throughout the NWFP by way of a pilot project launched in November 2002 with the aim of reducing maternal mortality.
One of the problems faced by pregnant women in Mardan is resistance from the mother-in-law to allow the expectant woman to be seen by the health workers as they are used to attending to the mother-to-be's health needs themselves within the community.

Badin district is situated between 24º-5` to 25º-25` north latitude and 68 21’ to 69 20’ east longitude.
The district is bounded on the north by Hyderabad district on the east by Mirpurkhas and Tharparker districts, on the south the Arabian Sea and Rann of Kutch, which also forms the international boundary with India, and on the west it is bounded by Thatta and Hyderabad districts.
The total area of the district is 6,726 square kilometers and the district consists of five talukas, they are Badin, Matli, Tando Bago, Golarchi and Talhar and with the introduction of the Devolution System the talukas have been sub-divided into the Union Councils numbering 49, Tapas 109 and Dehs 511.

 Historical Perspective
Mardan's reign was however short-lived and he was killed in 1213 AD by the Khalji nobles who elected Husam-ud-din Iwaz as ruler.
Ali Mardan had thrown of the allegiance to Delhi, and Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Iwaz Khalji ruled as an independent king till 1227 A.D. when he was defeated at the hands of Nasir-ud-din, the eldest son of Sultan Iltutmish.
The reaction in the district to this proclamation was sharp and Maharaja Girija Nath Roy took leading part in the agitation against the partition.

It may be added that the Mardan district government has developed a serious dispute over the formation of private committees by the provincial government, which interfere in the activities of the official committees of the Mardan District Council (MDC).
Addressing a meeting of the district council on Tuesday, Raza Khan claimed that the elected Nazims were doing well and they had kept a vigilant eye on the ongoing developmental projects.

Twenty-nine people were killed and more than 150 went missing after a bridge collapsed due to flash floods in Mardan district on Saturday, officials said.
Abdul Wali Yusufzai, who is in charge of the provincial flood relief cell, said the cell recorded 91,860 cusecs of floodwater passing through Mardan city.
Yusufazai said that Nowshehra and Charsadda districts and Hazara Division would remain highly flooded in the next 48 hours due to high water levels in Swat and Kabul rivers.

The provincial government in the relief commissioner’s office, projected the number of casualties to 38,172 a few days back after the Mansehra district government reported that more than 24,000 people were reportedly missing — believed to have been buried alive under the debris of the collapsed structures.
Among the counted victims, some 8,171 have been reported dead in Mansehra district, 3,900 in Battagram district, 415 in Shangla district, 515 in Abbottabad district, 622 in Kohistan district, seven in Swat district, three in Peshawar district, nine in Buner district and one in Mardan district.
While the funds provided by the federal government have not yet been utilized in terms of making compensation payments to the families of the victims, the provincial government has released Rs 370 million to the provincial relief commissioner for carrying out relief activities and paying compensation to families who have suffered casualties.
