  Mare Humboldtianum
The basin material is of the Nectarian epoch, with the mare material being of the Upper Imbrian epoch.
The Mare is seen quite clearly as a dark patch in the center of the photo.
The lighter gray area to the southeast of the dark mare material is a region of hills within the basin.

Mare Humboldtianum (Humboldt's Sea) is the darker grey feature adjacent to the edge of the terminator shadow, extending over the lower two thirds of its length.

Mare Australe at the southeast limb is a circular sea around 1,000 km in diameter which is composed of a network of flooded dark-floored craters and plains.

 Lunar mare
The Lunar maria (singular: mare) are large, dark, basaltic plains on Earth's Moon, formed by ancient basaltic flood eruptions caused by extremely large meteoroid impacts.
They were dubbed maria, Latin for "seas", by early astronomers who mistook them for actual seas.
A related set of features are the Lunar lacus, Latin for "lake", which are smaller basaltic plains of similar origin:

Humboldtianum basin materials The Humboldtianum basin near the east limb of the Moon is believed to be of middle Nectarian age, as Nectarian craters are both superposed on it and partly obliterated by it, and because its well-developed rings and ejecta blanket appear morphologically sharper than those of the Nectaris basin.
MARE AND DARK MANTLE MATERIALS In the map area mare material is restricted mostly to the near side, where it forms Mare Imbrium, Mare Frigoris, Oceanus Procellarum, Mare Humboldtianum, and patches near the Humboldtianum basin.

Others, again, of considerable area, as, for example, the Mare Serenitatis and the Mare Imbrium, are bounded more or less completely by curved borders, consisting of towering mountain ranges, descending with a very steep escarpment to their surface: thus in form and other characteristics they resemble immense wall-surrounded plains.
The Mare Imbrium also affords an example of a ridge, which, though shorter, is nearly as prominent, in that which runs from the bright little ring-plain Piazzi Smyth towards the west side of Plato.
