  Mare Nubium
Mare Nubium ("sea of clouds") is a lunar mare in the Nubium basin on the Moon's near side.
The crater to the east of the mare is Bullialdus[?], which is of the Eratosthenian[?] Epoch.
The crater that sits on the southern rim of the mare is Pitatus[?].

Compositional variations in the ejecta blankets of several craters were used to estimate the maximum mare thickness at the time of impact.
We are in agreement with previous studies on maria thickness variations [7]: a possible thickening of the basalt layers in the centre of the Nubium basin (~17°W 23°S), the northern eastern region (~10°W 20°S), and the northern border (~18°W 17°S).
We are also reporting two areas of mare thickening in Mare Cognitum: one just north of Dorney D (26°W 12°S) and another near the middle of the basin (23°W 10°S).

KC Pau's low sun view of eastern Mare Nubium looks like a messy lava sheet where most of the movement may have been vertical.
Mare ridges - or the more descriptive term, wrinkle ridges - clearly trace out a buried rim of the impact crater (Ancient Thebit) cut by the Straight Wall.
Shadows from these draped ridges clearly reveal that the surface inside the buried rim is lower than Mare Nubium itself.

Ages and stratigraphy of mare basalts in Oceanus Procellarum, Mare Nubium, Mare Cognitum, and Mare Insularum
Accurate estimates of mare basalt ages are necessary to place constraints on the duration and the flux of lunar volcanism as well as on the petrogenesis of lunar mare basalts and their relationship to the thermal evolution of the Moon.
Older basalts occur preferentially along the northwestern margin of Oceanus Procellarum and in the southeastern regions of the studied area, i.e., in Mare Cognitum and Mare Nubium.

Mare Humorum is the one nearer the "rim" of the Moon.

These craters have smooth dark floors and were partially filled by mare lava plains associated with the nearby Mare Nubium.
