Marek Borowski, deputy speaker of the Sejm and deputy chairman of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), spoke as the guest of the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland (AmCham)'s monthly breakfast in Warsaw June 6.
Borowski took the floor and started in on certain favorable aspects of the Polish economy, including the relatively low inflation rate, forecast at 6-7 percent, relatively strong exports and a falling current-account deficit.
However, Borowski's proposal that inflation should be reduced slowly so that the average annual inflation rate reaches 5 percent in 2004, a less ambitious target than the one set by the present government and RPP, aroused immediate concern among investors.

Marek Borowski, leader of the Polish leftist Social democracy, and former candidate in the presidential race has said he is ready to support Donald Tusk, head of the centrist Civic Platform, in the second round of the elections next Sunday.
Borowski said however that his support is determined by an assurance from Tusk, that his party will be ready to block the changes in the constitution proposed by the rightist Law and Justice, winner of the parliamentary elections.
Borowski said that changes in the constitution suggested by Law and Justice are most disquieting since they lack,among others, the guarantees to the right to strike or defining a minimal wage.

Over the past few days, the SLD-UP leaders-Miller, Marek Pol and Marek Borowski-have been conducting a series of consultations with the leaders of all the remaining parties of the new parliament.
