For much of the decade that Margaret Hodge led Islington council in north London she was known - without much affection - as Enver Hodge, with reference to the former dictator of Stalinist Albania.

When commenting about the dreadful Margaret Hodge we should, of course, bear in mind Stewart Stevens and the Evening Standard's original investigation (Link)into the Islington abuse scandal, often quoted these days as a model for the investigation of corrupt UK local authorities and referred to by Hodge as "gutter journalism".

We think Margaret Hodge deserves praise for her bravery in questioning the religious orthodoxy of the government, and it is good to see that more and more people are realising what we have been saying for many years: faith schools are a key cause of segregation.
