Assemblywoman Margaret M. Markey (Dem) was elected to the New York State Assembly in November of 1998.
Markey, who graduated from The Berkeley School, is a member of the New York State Legislative Women's Caucus and Capital Network, a women's networking group.
In 2002 Assemblymember Markey was absent for the vote on the minimum wage.

A victim of childhood sexual abuse would thus have until they were 28, rather than 23, to come forward and seek criminal and civil action against their attacker.
Another key part of Markey’s legislation is that, in cases where the civil statute of limitations has already expired, victims would have a one-year window of opportunity from the date the bill is enacted, regardless of their age, to bring civil action against their alleged attackers.

Windmuller Park, at 52nd Street and 39th Drive in Woodside, is receiving a $1.7 million facelift, with some of the funding coming from the city and some from the state.

The bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Margaret Markey (D-Queens County) would start the statute of limitations at age 23, in effect giving victims ten years from age 18 to file a criminal or civil lawsuit against their abusers.
The bill would also provide victims regardless of age who missed the deadline a one year window to file a civil lawsuit.

Recently, the Court of Appeals reversed itself and will reconsider the Supreme Court's dismissal of a Utica man's allegations of abuse committed in the 1960s.
Last month, the Assembly passed a bill sponsored by Margaret Markey (D-Maspeth) that would open a special one-year window for victims to prosecute.
Anyone up the age of 28 who had been sexually abused as a minor would be able to file a lawsuit, even if their time had run out under pre-existing law.
