She was a stringer for 'The Bulletin' and ABC Rural Radio, where she supplied gripping stories about the sale of Aussie hoses to Hungarian farmers and the implications of the success or failure of the Russian wheat crop.
Back in Australia she met and married filmmaker Hans Pomeranz and became involved with and enthusiastic about the 'new wave' of Australian filmmaking that was happening during the 1970s.
Margaret has served as a member of the Advertising Standards Board, is a past president of the Film Critics Circle of Australia and is currently president of Watch on Censorship and a member of the inaugural board of the Australian Writers' Foundation.

But then Pomeranz seemed to change her mind, hit the play button again, and was rewarded with cheering and clapping.
Pomeranz and her colleagues stepped on stage at 8pm, 15 minutes earlier than scheduled, after realising they couldn’t squeeze any more people into the Town Hall.
Pomeranz grudgingly tried to oblige, only to realise - much to her obvious amusement - that with the power was off, there was no way in to the DVD player.

Trivia: In 2004, after 18 years on the program, Margaret Pomeranz and 'David Stratton' grew to dislike both the change in what the network aired, and how they were treated, so they resigned from the show.
For 18 years, Margaret and David have rated every movie under the sun, often puzzling viewers with their ratings, and most always puzzling each other.
Sadly, after eighteen years on air, the duo decided to leave SBS (because SBS's programming quality had slipped, and the duo were no longer treated as they had been previously) and are now on the ABC presenting "At the Movies".

The only function "reviewers" on this particular plane of existence serve is as a quick rule of thumb - if Margaret hates it, there's a good chance the rest of us will like it.

I do really hope that a wide audience gets to see the film, although I suspect the sceptics will remain sceptics given Margaret Pomeranz’s odd response to the film on last night’s At the Movies.
Despite giving the film four stars, she apparently (I’ve heard this second hand - would love to know if there’s a transcript somewhere?) says she wants to see an unbiased presentation and that we should get an unbiased body to report on it.
So it’s important that I hear what Margaret has to say to pop that bubble and get me back to reality - as well as giving me some insight as to the issues other people are likely to come across when watching the film.

But the Movie Show's Margaret Pomeranz, who also belongs to the protest group, said that a copy of the film did exist and that the screening would go ahead as planned.
She said the lack of confirmation on the screening was because the group had agreed to divert attention away from controversy so the film could be judged on its own merits.
She said there was a long list of countries whose censorship boards had passed Ken Park, adding: "Its even been allowed in Estonia - so far we are the only ones to ban it."

By John Coomber in The Age: Movie critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz more than doubled their audience in their debut show on the ABC last night.
It was a highly promising start for At the Movies, with figures that compare favourably with proven ratings winner Enough Rope with Andrew Denton, which draws about a million viewers.
Stratton and Pomeranz, who switched networks because they felt unloved by SBS management, stuck to the formula which has been so successful for the past 18 years.
