Bangova is originally from Slovakia and was seen in a 1997 Czech documentary encouraging fellow Gypsies to follow her to Toronto, touting Canada as some sort of promised land.
Bangova, who abandoned her corner when the story emerged, reportedly hasn't decided whether to return to panhandling.

He said there's no way Bangova is given as much as estimated by the Sun, estimating that she took in $80 a day during the holiday season and between $40 and $50 a day during the rest of the year.

A recent article by a Toronto newspaper has made the city’s poor more desperate, say some panhandlers.
The Toronto Sun reported that 66-year-old panhandler Margita Bangova, known as the Shaky Lady because of her trademark convulsions, collects as much as $2,500 a week from sympathetic passersby at a busy downtown intersection.
The Sun reported that, at the end of the day, Bangova stops shaking and is picked up by a Chevrolet Lumina, which whisks her off to an apartment she shares with her son and his three children.
