Siquijor fell under the care of the Recollects who in 1768 had taken charge of Bohol after the departure of the Jesuits and had taken charge of eastern Negros together with the seculars of Cebu.
In 1969, the Sub-province of Siquijor, Province of Negros Oriental was created and Republic Act No. 6398, dated September 17, 1971, which provided for the separated Siquijor as a regular province, composed of the municipalities of Enrique Villanueva, Maria, Lazi, San Juan, Siquijor, and Lorena.
In 1972, the capital was transferred from Lorena to the town of Siquijor.

MARIA, Siquijor—The two-kilometer walk on rough road and the allure of the red and white molave trees of Salagdoong are a respite for the city buff.
In the 1970s, the Salagdoong Beach Resort was an untouched strip of powdery white sand, bordered with cliffs and accessed through a thick growth of tugas (Vilex parviflora Juss) and bogo (Garuga floribunda Decne) trees.
These include the construction of thatched huts up in the cliffs, purchase of a bus to shuttle guests to and from the ports of Larena and Siquijor towns, purchase of a generator (power has become unstable in the island) and the establishment of a dive shop.

Sonneratia ovata (Sonneratiaceae), locally known as pagatpat baye in Siquijor and pagatpat in Bohol, was first sighted in Liloan, Maria, Siquijor in 1990 (Yao, 1997a), where a small stand of the species was observed in a lagoon, about 50 meters from the highest tide.
The tree was one of several introduced with seedlings from Siquijor.
A seedling from Siquijor planted in Mualong, Loon, Bohol started fruiting after four years, when it reached a diameter at breast height of 4 cm and a height of three meters.

Personally I love Maria Louisa, Mactan, Bohol, Siquijor, Dumaguete etc., The tranquility of those places is excellent for vacation.
From Maria Louisa, where you live isolated in the hills or Mactan you always need a taxi or your own car, eventually with a driver, to go to the city.

Acting Provincial Fishery Officer Warren Inao said, after a thorough study of the framework of the project, a stock of 28,000 bangus fingerlings is now ready for distribution in a roll-over scheme approach to some identified members of the fisherfolks associations of Lazi, Maria and Siquijor.
