Maria Olaru (born June 4, 1982, Falticeni) is a retired Olympic gymnast from Romania.
Olaru began gymnastics at the age of six in her hometown of Falticeni, but quickly transferred to the local gymnastics club in Deva.
Olaru retired after the 2000 Olympics, noting that the new Code of Points would not be suited to gymnasts of her height, and enrolled as a student at the University of Timisoara.

The Romanians have lost 1997 triple gold medalist Gina Gogean to retirement, but Raducan stepped in serenely, scoring 9.812 on the balance beam and 9.800 in the floor exercises, where she sometimes seemed to barely touch the ground.
Olaru's best was a 9.787 on the floor, but her consistency put her into the individual lead with 38.792 to 38.755 for Raducan.

Maria Olaru in answering one of the questions was amazed to see the tolerance shown by the different races and religions in Malaysia who live together harmoniously.
