Marianne was a board member of the Community Unemployed Help Centre, the Steering Committee of the Winnipeg Career Symposium and a youth member of the Volunteer Centre of Winnipeg for three years.
Before her election as the MLA for Radisson in the September, 1990 general election, Marianne Cerilli was employed as a Counselor with the Winnipeg School Division for two years.
Marianne is currently a board member of the Wee Bairns Daycare and has recently been on the board of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Media Watch National Committee, dealing with violence and sexism in the media.

Cerilli is the daughter of railway trade unionist Al Cerilli.
Cerilli initially intended to run for the NDP in the north-end Winnipeg riding of Broadway in the 1990 provincial election, but lost the party nomination to Conrad Santos by one vote.
Cerilli was re-elected in the 1995 provincial election, defeating Liberal Art Miki by 4891 votes to 2401.

The Violence Is Not Child's Play Coalition in Winnipeg is upset that the video game industry itself, through its Entertainment Software Rating Board, determines what rating each game is given.
"Some of the things that they're rating as suitable for children, you know, we would question whether they really are suitable," said spokesperson Marianne Cerilli.
The coalition has said the provinces should have their own independent rating system, but the provincial government feels the industry standards are fair.
