Marie Juliette Louvet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marie Juliette Louvet (May 9, 1867 – September 24, 1930) was partner of Prince Louis II of Monaco and was the mother of his only child, Princess Charlotte of Monaco.
Known as Juliette, Louvet was the daughter of Jacques Henri Louvet (1830 1910) and his first wife, Joséphine Elmire Piedefer (1828-1871).
Juliette Louvet became an entertainer of sorts, reportedly a cabaret singer (other sources identify her as a laundress and a dressmaker), then was Prince Louis' lover.

Louis II, Prince of Monaco - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
(Juliette was already the mother of two children, Georges and Marguerite, by her former husband, French "girlie" photographer Achille Delmaet.) Reportedly, Prince Louis fell deeply in love but, because of what in those days was seen as her ignominious station in life, his father would not permit the marriage.
Charlotte was formally adopted by Louis in 1919, and became Charlotte Louise Juliette Grimaldi, Hereditary Princess of Monaco, and Duchess of Valentinois.
Confused versions of this story claim that either Marie Louvet or her mother was laundress or "washerwoman" to Louis' regiment: in fact, Marie Louvet’s step-mother, not her mother, had been Louis’ laundress in Constantine, Algeria.

Rainier’s mother, Princess Charlotte, was the result of a liaison between Prince Louis II and Marie-Juliette Louvet, the daughter of a laundrywoman at the Grimaldi palace who’d made her way to the nightclubs of Montmartre and become a “cabaret singer”, after a fashion.
Marie was for a while the husband of Achille Delmaet, one of those belle époque figures half-remembered for his nude photographs of the can-can dancers at the Moulin Rouge.
Interesting (if not charitable) piece, but this: Marie was for a while the husband of Achille Delmaet is not the only blooper.
