Marie N is the stage name of Marija Naumova (born June 23 1973), winner of the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest for Latvia.
Naumova is apparently a popular performer in Latvia, singing a broad range of music ranging from pop, through musical theatre jazz, has recorded several albums (her latest in French), and also possesses a law degree from the University of Latvia.
Naumova was blasted in the Lithuanian and Estonian media for her irredentist remarks in the European press.

Two weeks after I interviewed Naumova, the American embassy sponsored a special concert at the Small Guild in Riga’s Old Town featuring Odetta, the 76-year-old gospel singer who famously performed at the March on Washington following Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963.

Eurowizja.com also points out that the article concerned is almost idential to an interview published on 21st May 2002 in which it mentioned Latvia (referring to Marie N's Eurovision appearance) instead of Russia.
Marie N compared to IRA LOSCO which ended up 2nd place deserved it much more.
