 Perec hangs up spikes
Triple Olympic champion Marie-José Perec has retired after more than seven years in the athletics wilderness, sources close to the Frenchwoman have said.
Perec ran her last official race in 1997, though a comeback for a showdown with Cathy Freeman at the 2000 Sydney Olympics ended with Perec fleeing in fear claiming Australians were threatening her.
Perec has still to officially announce her retirement, but friends and relations in her native Guadeloupe have made it clear 'the Gazelle' will not compete again, despite being seen apparently in training.

 Perec
Marie-Jose Perec is unlikely to compete this year an official from her sponsor Reebok was quoted in French sports daily L'Equipe as saying.
Its first line reads: "Connaissez-vous Marie-José Perec?" The answer is a resounding no. Despite all attempts to find her, no one has any idea where the reclusive triple Olympic champion is living these days.
Perhaps the only certainty is that Perec is definitely not in Rostock, the German Baltic port where she arrived amid much publicity more than a year ago to work with Wolfgang Meier, the husband and former mentor of the East German 400m world record holder Marita Koch.

CNN/SI - IAAF World Championships - Inger Miller
She will have an outside shot at winning the 100 but, with France's Marie-José Perec pulling out of the Athens competition, Miller might be the woman to beat in the longer sprint.
Miller is from Los Angeles and was a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she majored in biological science.
Miller earned her shot in Athens after winning the U.S. title in the 200 and claiming a spot in the 100 with a third place finish.

Guardian Enigmatic Perec leaves only questions
When Britain's Katharine Merry settles into the blocks for the first round of the women's 400 metres here at Australia Stadium today, in the lane next to her should have been the defending champion Marie-José Pérec, twice winner of Olympic gold at the distance and arguably the greatest quarter-miler in history.
Before her one 400m race this summer, in which she placed third behind Merry in Nice, she said she realised a comeback would be difficult.
Instead the Frenchwoman was deciding what her next move would be after being questioned by police about an alleged attack on an Australian cameraman at Singapore airport.
