MarinaVaizey's edited collection Art: The Critics' Choice provides a simple but elegant solution to the problem: a sumptuously produced history of art in 10 chapters that draws on experts in the field of every particular historical period under consideration.
In Vaizey'sArt: The Critics' Choice, art historians have selected their favorite works of Western art or those they deem the most influential from Antiquity through the present.
MarinaVaizey'sArt: The Critics' Choice provides a chronological arrangement as it tells the story of art through works selected and explained by world-renowned experts.
In a refreshingly different approach to art history, this masterful survey tells the story of art through a cross-section of 150 exemplary works selected, explained, and explored by world-renowned experts.

MarinaVaizey's 100 Famous Paintings delivers exactly what is promised: half-page descriptions of 100 notable paintings and half- or full-page reproductions of them.
There is a significant overlap between the paintings selected for this book and the ones that, historically, have come up most frequently in quiz bowl.
When Bulgarian-born Christo Javacheff wraps a motorcycle, an armchair or an entire building in tarpaulin or plastic, the act of wrapping seems simultaneously to conceal, enshrine, bury and iconize the object.
In this attractively illustrated showcase, art historian Vaizey interprets Christo's productions as theater and public performance: he has erected cheerfully painted Pop storefronts and a wall of empty oil barrels; he has wrapped a Paris bridge in shimmering golden fabric.
A joint Japan-U.S. Christo project, previewed in the book, will set thousands of blue-and-yellow umbrellas bobbing across parks and fields.

Independent, The (London), Jan 20, 2005 by MarinaVaizey
Joan Crossley-Holland's appearance was old-fashioned, except for her jewellery, writes MarinaVaizey.
She was small, bustling, and determined, rather like a fictionalised version of an inspiring but at times overwhelming sixth-form teacher; Alan Bennett might have written some of the script.
I also note how very short the piece was: this was because the art critic had to be squeezed onto the same page.
MarinaVaizey, for it was she, declared: "The collection as a whole has never looked more compelling or more beautiful: the permanent galleries of the Sainsbury Wing set new standards for the world of art".
I predicted in the piece that the building would effectively become invisible.

La means mountain pass, Ladakh is the land of the mountain passes and was once part of the great trade routes that criss-crossed the mountains of India, China and Tibet." From the Introduction by MarinaVaizey.
