The original Navigator badge was a successor to the Observer Badge which was issued to military aviation navigators in the 1920s and 1930s.
The badge was similar to the Aviator Badge and the Aircrew Badge.
For Navy and Marine Corps officers the equivalent of the Navigator Badge is known as the Naval Flight Officer Badge.

The badge, itself, was not altered however the change was made retroactive to the year 1947 requiring updates to military records upon request from the military service member.
The badge is a variation on the Naval Aviation Observer Badge with the letters AC centered on the badge’s front.

The 1945-1947 Navy Navigator wings are scarce, but I bet the later Marine Navigator wings are just as uncommon since there was probably limited need for this position.

Shumann served in the Marines with the Sixth Division on Guadalcanal and later joined the fight for the occupation of Okinawa.
He became aerial navigator of a Flying Fortress with the Seventh Squadron, 34th Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force, which was located northeast of the village of Stowmarket in Suffolk, England.
He wore the Combat Infantryman's Badge for his excellent performance in ground combat against the enemy, and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak-leaf Cluster posthumously.

It was something that was given to him by the Merchant Marine.
Also, of my fathers things, I have a few of his ribbon bars as well as mini metal ribbon bars, visor cap badge (pinback) and his ID tag with mini USAF wings attached.

 2nd Lt Harry F. Stallings, Navigator, Crew 11 - 39th Bomb Group (VH)
It told of the USAF coming to Kinston, NC operating from a pilot training base at the old WWII US Marine Corps Air Field and naming the field "Stallings Field" in honor of the Stallings Brothers - 2nd Lt. Harry L. Stallings was one of those brothers.
In 1942 he was transferred to the Army Air Corps and sent back to the states for training.
He received his commission and wings as an Aerial Navigator at Selma Field, Monroe, La., in June of 1944.
