United States Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni is located at the Nishiki river delta in the city of Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture in the Chugoku region of the island of Honshu, Japan.
The base is detailed for marine pilot training and air patrol, using F/A-18 Hornet fighter- attack aircraft among others in compliance with the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security obligations to protect Japan.
Unofficially the American base continues to function as an important boost for Iwakuni's economy and a focal point for thriving personal relations between servicemembers and civilians.

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (July 24, 2003) -- The Blacksheep of Marine Attack Squadron 214 arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni July 11 for a six-month tour under the Unit Deployment Program.
Although the squadron has been to Iwakuni before, many of the Marines who make up the Blacksheep are new to deployments.

Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort is located in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry and is among the United States military's most important and most historically colorful installations.
The Marines at the air station are new kids on the block, even though they've been there since 1956 when MAG-31 was moved from Marine Corps Air Station, Miami, at the time that historic old Southern base was closed.

YAMAGUCHI, Japan (Kyodo) — The Iwakuni municipal and Yamaguchi prefectural governments approved Friday a plan to transfer five CH-53D Sea Stallion transport helicopters to Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station from a base on Okinawa, where the same type of aircraft crashed at a university campus during the summer.
Ihara made the remark after the agency and U.S. military officials explained the cause of the August accident, and outlined the plan to transfer the five CH-53D helicopters from Futenma Marine Corps Air Station in the Okinawa city of Ginowan to Iwakuni, Japanese officials said.
On Wednesday, the Marines resumed helicopter flights, following the Japanese government’s approval of the resumption the previous day despite opposition from local residents.
