In September 1955, the Wing left Miami for Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Calif. Third Marine Aircraft Wing was rebuilt again, with the addition of Marine Aircraft Group 15, followed by Marine Aircraft Group 36 with its helicopter squadrons at a nearby Air Station in Santa Ana, California.
The Third Marine Aircraft Wing was commissioned on November 10, 1942, at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. with a personnel roster of 13 officers, 25 enlisted men and one aircraft- a trainer.
The Third Marine Aircraft Wing supported I MEF and coalition forces in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is a 24,000-acre installation located in the northern suburbs of San Diego and is one of the largest military bases in the area.
Marine Corps Air Stations El Toro and Tustin were closed, and their assets moved to Miramar by the end of 1999.
Miramar is clearly a target for some of these local activists, who have predicted that the base will be closed under a future BRAC round, and turned over to the city for use as its civil airport.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, hereinafter referred to as the "Station", is located on approximately 23,116 acres of land in San Diego County, California four miles east of the Pacific Ocean and thirteen miles north of downtown San Diego.
In addition, SERG is consulting with Station personnel in regards to the to repair of R33, the dirt Road bisecting the site, to minimize the damage to the restoration site during the construction efforts.
A total of 50 signs, supplied by MCAS Miramar and designating the site closed to foot traffic, were placed every 50 feet along the east and west side of R33 adjacent to the restoration site.

 Miramar Marine Corps Air Station
Miramar used to be the "Top Gun" base for training Navy fighter pilots, until the Marine Corps took it over in the mid 1990's, after loosing the two Marine Corps air stations in Orange County (El Toro and Tustin).
Top Gun moved to Fallon, Nevada, and now Miramar is the west coast center for the Marines "air power." Fighters, heavy lifters, helicopters, and reconnaissance aircraft are based here, conducting around 200,000 sorties per year.

Sergeant Andrew B. Williams, substance abuse counselor, Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, also served in the Middle East and can relate to how the other Marines have dealt and are dealing with the effects of stressors resulting from the Corps' operational tempo.
Helping Marines who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder was a common concern for most of the NCOs who attended the symposium, some of whom have been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan as many as three times in two years.

The transition from civilian to Marine cooks is a direct result of the Marines recently having returned from deployment to Iraq, according to Master Sgt. Christopher P. Storey, food service liaison, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
The change from civilian to Marine cooks is part of the standard operating procedure at the mess hall in which civilians cook while the Marines are deployed and the Marines cook when back in garrison.
Marine cooks took over the cooking responsibilities at the mess hall May 1.

 Air Show Attracts Thousands of Spectators
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. (NNS) -- Hundreds of thousands of spectators came out to enjoy the show as Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar celebrated “From Kitty Hawk to Miramar: 100 Years of Flight” Oct. 17-19 at the annual Miramar Air Show.
A variety of modern and vintage military and civilian aircraft, along with an impressive display of Marine Corps ground-based and airborne firepower, such as tanks, armored vehicles, heavy-lift and attack helicopters, and fast-jet aircraft were parked where visitors could get up-close and personal, taking pictures and crawling inside the cockpits of some aircraft.
As helicopters, Hornets and Harriers flew through the air, Marines rappelled from the sky and infantry platoons moved in on their simulated objective.
