Camp Pendleton is the Marine Corps' only amphibious training base for the west coast, and the only west coast installation capable of supporting combined and comprehensive air, sea and ground combat training.
The Base is a cornerstone of the Marine Corps’ training range complex in the southwestern United States, which includes the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, the Barry M. Goldwater range near MCAS Yuma, Arizona, and the Chocolate Mountains range in the southeastern corner of California.

Unlike Camp Lejeune, constructed to permanent specifications of brick, steel, and concrete, Camp Pendleton, considered a temporary facility, was built to minimum standards of wood-frame construction.

More importantly, Camp Pendleton will be easily accessible to several thousand Chosin veterans who will be in San Diego that week for the 50th Anniversary Reunion of the Chosin Few, a fraternal organization whose members include many of the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign.

As an athlete, Armour is one of Camp Pendleton's most notorious - having won back-to-back titles in the female division at the annual Strongest Warrior competition in 2001 and '02, and ultimately the base's 2001 Female Athlete of the Year Award.
