MCBH Kaneohe Bay has a 7,500 feet runway and supporting taxiways which, in addition to normal air operations, are used for access to the outer island training areas.

Women didn't serve in the Corps again - for nearly 25 years - until General Thomas Holcomb, the 17th Commandant of the Marine Corps, announced the formation of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve on Feb. 13, 1943.
By the 1970s, women began to be assigned to Fleet Marine Force units, and by 1975, they could be assigned to all occupational fields except combat arms, air defense and antiterrorism units.
As a Marine, she served as a recruiter and soon became known as "Molly of the Marines." She also broadcasted bi-weekly programs in which she read letters written to her from Marines across the country and the Pacific.

The Environmental Compliance and Protection Department, along with other MCB Hawaii units, such as the Provost Marshal’s Office, Fire Department and Base Safety, got together on Nov. 3 to execute a mock oil spill at the shores of the Marine Corps Air Facility.
The simulation was part of an annual event that the base is required to perform to meet state and federal law requirements and to prove that it can handle the situation, if such an event should occur.
Though the base units that participated in the drill passed the situation easily, unit officials said they are already discussing how to do an even better job next year.

 Recruiter assists Marines after Corps
MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII - (Aug. 18, 2006) -- “I really wanted to be a drill instructor but the special assignment monitor thought I would be better at recruiting I guess,” said Gunnery Sgt. Cody L. Harding, transitional recruiter at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Most of the Marines Harding has spoken to end up taking the Direct Referral Program, which is when a Marine doesn’t have an occupational match with the reserve unit, so they retrain the Marine in a different occupation to fit the needs of the reserve unit.
Harding provides a brief to Marines who are leaving and tells them all the jobs and benefits the Marine Corps Reserves offer two times a month.
