Marine aviation personnel served in France as the Day Wing of the Northern Bombing Group of the Navy.
Marine flyers served with Squadrons 213 (pursuit squadron), 217, and 218 (bombing squadrons), Royal Flying Corps of England; and with pursuit, observation, and bombing squadrons of the French Flying Corps.
Marines were in intimate contact with the Germans in Guam and Philadelphia in conjunction with the Navy in the first hours of the war.

In the harbors across the country were the famed mothballed "battlewagons" of World War II, the Missouri, the New Jersey, the North Carolina, and the Iowa, all open for public inspection.

The United States Marine Corps was established on November 10, 1775, to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War.
The Corps celebrated its birthday, or Marine Corps Day, on July 11 from 1799 until 1921 when the date was permanently changed to November 10 to commemorate the establishment of the Corps to aid in the Revolutionary War.
Major General Thomas Holcomb, the Commandant, presided at an open house for Marine Corps officers, including the cutting of a huge cake in the shape of Tun Tavern.

OLYMPIA - After just one day of fishing, the recreational shrimp fishery is over for the year in Marine Area 11, the portion of Puget Sound extending from the northern end of Vashon Island to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
The single day's catch was more than triple the sport fishery's 600-pound allocation for the season, and also exceeded 1,500-pound allocation for the sport and commercial shrimp fisheries combined, said Rich Childers, WDFW shellfish biologist.
Marine areas 4 (east of the Bonilla Line), 5, 6, 7 and 13 are open daily with standard fishing hours (pots can be checked only from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset).
