While the Mariners struggled again in their 3rd season finishing in 6th place with a record of 67-95, the Pacific Northwest had their first taste of the baseball spotlight as they hosted the All-Star Game, which was the 50th game featuring the American League's best going up against the best of the National League.
Mariners fans were finally able to have some hope for the future as Rookies Alvin Davis, and Mark Langston burst on to the scene.
While the Mariners sank to the bottom of the AL West again with a woeful 68-93 record, the Mariners continued to build for the future by acquiring a rookie slugger named Jay Buhner from the New York Yankees for Ken Phelps.

I would like to point out that moose mating season is in the fall…as in October or so…and Mariner management has curiously tended to arrange for the Mariner Moose to have no public commitments during this time.
I think that speaks both for the possibility that the Mariner Moose is genuine, and also, having personally encountered a moose during the rut, for M’s managment commitment to a “fan friendly” environment.

A fantastic time was had by all, and then the Mariners players and coaches had to leave to head to Safeco Field to prepare for their game that night.
The funniest part was when the Moose slid down on the floor then wiped the dirt off his pants.

Mark Lowe made his major-league debut for the Mariners having been called up from AA San Antonio this morning, and he had a fun time out there, loading the bases and then coming out of it without letting a run score.
As mentioned, the Mariners pushed ahead one run in the 9th with a few singles off a tiring Jeremy Bonderman, so Joel Zumaya came out and showed me that his Coliseum radar readings weren't a fluke as he downed Richie and the game ended with the Mariners losing 6-1.
