  Mario Golf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mario Golf is a sports video game that was developed by Camelot Software Planning (known for the successful PlayStation title Hot Shots Golf) and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color and released in 1999.
In Japan, the Nintendo 64 version is known as Mario Golf 64 (マリオゴルフ64), and the Game Boy Color version is known as Mario Golf GB (マリオゴルフGB).
Each version of Mario Golf has its own respective sequel: the Nintendo 64 version's is Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, released for the GameCube in 2003, and the Game Boy Color version's is Mario Golf: Advance Tour, released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004.

The notion of a golf game starring everyone's favorite plumber may seem odd to many, but actually Mario Golf 64 is simply a continuation of a classic series on the NES and Famicom.
Hitting the ball is blissfully simple: hit the button once to start the meter, hit it a second time to indicate how far you want to drive the ball and as it returns hit the button a third time as close to the line as possible for accuracy.
Golf isn't exactly a simple game, however, and the game recognizes this by allowing for the more complex parts of the game.

While the original Mario Golf for the Nintendo 64 was essentially a “normal” (and very good) golf game that happened to feature Mario characters in it, many more aspects of Toadstool Tour have been designed with the Mario Bros. universe in mind.
Mario and the gang have never looked better, as each character model is made of a high number of polygons and animates extremely smoothly—each character’s various victory or defeat poses adds a lot of personality to the game.
As a whole, it might not be a substantial difference from many other golf games already out there, but Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour still has enough charm, originality and fun gameplay going for it to make it a worthy purchase for anybody.

Luckily Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour does just this and thus is a pretty entertaining cutesy golf game that will prove to be entertaining to both testosterone enraged males(myself), and prissy girls who have managed to pry themselves from their Care Bear dolls(my girlfriend).
The first golf course is terribly pedestrian and to be honest the game doesn’t get interesting until about the third or fourth course.
Some characters have a pronounced draw in their swing while others are straight shooters, some are better at placing spin on the ball etc. There isn’t really too much of a difference between attributes though so in the end it all comes down to a matter of which character you adore the most.

Perhaps it's a little odd that you can't control Mario from the get-go (however, to satisfy the pedants, there is a "quick golf" mode where you can do just that, although you won't unlock anything), but then Advance Tour is an odd little game.
With Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Camelot proves it has that shrewd appreciation of what keeps people coming back to the likes of Toadstool Tour, Tiger Woods and the console Links - and also like those games it renders the sport with a degree of artistic licence.

A hint for Mario Star if your not there yet is that all the holes look like characters and its fun to teach your kid bro or sis the names of them like I did.
Get Kid, Sherry, Azeala, and Joe on Mario Golf for Game Boy Color and transfer them to the N64 and they will be in the empty four spots at the bottom.

Since playing through the different courses in doubles golf play with a partner is key in unlocking everything, you're going to have to make sure that the character you pair up with is the same level – if not higher – than you are.
Which is good for Mario Golf Advance Tour, because it's basically the first Hot Shots title with some Mario franchise stuff thrown in.
Regardless if you like golf or not this game is a must have for anyone who wants to play a fun game with lots to unlock and discover.

The original Nintendo "Golf" for the NES was one of the first golf games that I actually found interesting, and NES Open and Mario Golf 64 remain two of my all-time favorite games, so Toadstool Tour has a lot to live up to.
Everything else improves on Mario Golf 64, with (eventually) six courses of amazing hilly terrain and water effects, new "fast fairways" (that you don't always want to land on) and easy-to-implement backspin and topspin.
