Mario G. Racco (born in 1955) is a politician in Ontario, Canada.
Racco was elected to the city council of Vaughan, Ontario in 1982, and retained this position until his election to the Ontario legislature.
In the 2003 provincial election, Racco defeated Susan Kadis for the Liberal nomination in Thornhill and ran against Tina Molinari, an incumbent from the Progressive Conservatives.

I agree...Mario Racco has gone so far as to have his wife run for Ward Councillor in Vaughan...add to that the fact that she is using his surname, something she has never done, and the fact that she registered on the last possible day, so as to avoid potential media flack.
Mario Racco was also implicated in a few questionable funding issues, and is genuinely thought of as, well, kind of slimy.
Racco is not necessarily the most "popular" of politicians who has coasted to victory in municipal campaigns by being acclaimed in 2000, and relatively little challenges in prior contests.

Susan doesn't have the support of her provincial counterpart, and as much as I don't like Mario Racco's politics, that is going to hurt her more than it will help.
Kadis and the Liberals are losing some of last years support due to federal issues which is out of the control of Kadis since she is a backbencher but the majority is not supporting Kadis for her acts of cronyism locally and her lack of consideration for the Italian community of Thornhill.

Martow noted that in 1999 and again in 2005, the United Nations ruled Ontario to be in violation of international human rights law because of its educational funding system, and she said that on May 12, she submitted a PEEF petition to Racco with about 1,000 signatures in support of equal funding for faith-based schools.
Racco told her he read the petition into the record in the legislature on May 15, but Martow noted that he omitted the phrase, “Whereas Ontario is the only western democracy that fully funds faith-based schools of one religion to the total exclusion of all other religions.”

Protesters gathered at a Richmond Hill hotel put down their placards and whooped for joy as Thornhill MPP Mario Racco told them they will finally get therapy and counselling in their own communities rather than having to travel to Toronto for services.
He made the statement while Children's Services Minister Marie Bountrogianni was in Orillia announcing $10.5 million in annual funding for York and Simcoe children's services to be phased in by 2007.
Racco said some services will be available in York and Simcoe as soon as next year.

Racco’s view won the support of council yesterday, as it approved a resolution endorsing the construction of the 8.6-kilometre Spadina-York subway extension to spur the economy and help ease road congestion in the GTA.
Racco said the province’s $9 billion over 10 years transit plan, announced last week, along with federal and local contributions, should underwrite the extension’s costs.
Councillors were told the project could be done in two phases, costing about $1 billion to extend it to Steeles Ave.

The process of erecting the statue will be managed by a community committee chaired by Ward 4 Councillor Mario G. Racco.
It will be responsible for raising the project funds, having the artwork for the statue approved by the Trudeau family, holding a public consultation meeting prior to proceeding with the construction of the statue, and proposing a suitable location for the statue in the park.

Politicians in York Region and Toronto have joined with York University to resurrect a estimated $880 million proposal to extend the subway to Vaughan and help bust highway gridlock choking that area.
The politicians, working as the Spadina-York Subway Extension Committee, plan to lobby the federal and provincial governments to help fund an extension from the Downsview station to Vaughan’s planned city centre at Jane St. and Highway 7, said Vaughan councillor Mario Racco, the chair of the committee.
The committee is proposing the cost be funded in equal shares from the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government.
