In other words, the Roman Catholic authorities believe their system of Mariology to be true because they say it is true.
Over the years, the Roman Catholic church has given her the title of Virgin of Virgins, Gate of Heaven, Queen of Heaven, Co-Redemptrix, Queen of Sorrows, Virgin Most Merciful, and many, many others.
It is safe and correct to say that the early church knew nothing of what has come to be called Mariology.

Roman Catholic historian Hilda Graef covers the topic of the Immaculate Conception in the book, The Devotion To Our Lady, in the chapter called “The Middle Ages,” and the initial focus begins with a monk named Eadmer 1124 AD).
When Luther abandoned aspects of Mariology like the Immaculate Conception, it served to further un-deify the goddess.
There were heated debates between the maculist and immaculist positions, and one should be well aware that the immaculist position gained ground (and advocates) during the Middle Ages (see Heiko Oberman’s book, The Harvest of Medieval Theology, Chapter 9 “Mariology” which goes into detail on the conflict between the maculists and the immaculists.
