Control of the festival subsequently passed through several hands before it was taken over in turn by the Toronto Guild of Canadian Folk Artists in 1969 and by the Mariposa Folk Foundation in 1977.
Mariposa was banned from the Orillia area in 1964 because of public disturbances by festival-goers in the first three years.
The festival was discontinued in 1980, at which time the foundation increased its year-round activities with concerts at Harbourfront (and in later years at various Toronto clubs and halls).

The Mariposa Folk Foundation, which has run Canada's best-known annual traditional music and crafts festival since the early 1960s, may be put to death later this month by some of the people who have loved it most.
Mariposa has suffered substantial losses since 1980, despite the sponsorship of Molson brewery from 1983-86 and a member-financed debt-retirement program that whittled $30,000 off a $170,000 deficit the past few months.

Calgary Folk Music Festival - 25 years of Folk Festival
The Calgary Folk Music Festival was a mere teenager, still struggling to regain its footing after a seemingly uninterrupted streak of rain-drenched events which gave sinister new meaning to divine retribution, and all it was trying to do was cap a fun weekend with the good-time choruses of a well-loved Texas boogie band.
The Festival was ultimately given its easements (funny how a strategic mention of the Stampede seemed to expedite this process) and did everything it could, acoustically and otherwise, to live in harmony with its neighbours.
The Festivals of the early '90s were pivotal in several ways, not the least of which was convincing patrons that the event was not cosmically cursed.

It was in July 2002 that I caught Steve, appearing by himself, at the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia, Ontario.

So when I returned to Toronto after the festival I posted an account of the weekend including a review of Steve's two colourful performances, the second of which featured a persistent swarm of fl flies, a charging fan, and a visit from the Hells Angels.
