Mark ("Moose") Charlap (born December 19, 1928; died April 18, 1974) was a Broadway composer best known for "Peter Pan" (1954), for which Carolyn Leigh did the lyrics.
The idea to do the show came from Jerome Robbins, who planned to have a few songs by Charlap and Leigh.
However, the show evolved into a full blown musical, with additional songs by Jule Styne and Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

William Morrison Charlap is a jazz pianist born October 15, 1966 in New York City.
His came from a music background with mother being a singer and his father was Broadway composer Mark "Moose" Charlap.
Bill Charlap replaced Dick Hyman as Artistic Director of New York's 92nd Street Y "Jazz in July" six program series after Hyman's 20th year in 2004.

Charlap is the son of two musical legends: the Broadway composer and songwriter Moose (sometimes billed as "Mark") Charlap and the gifted pop singer Sandy Stewart who co-starred on TV’s Perry Como Show, sang with Benny Goodman, and earned a Grammy nomination for her best-selling single "My Coloring Book" (Kander and Ebb´s first hit tune).
Charlap eventually auditioned and got the job with the most famous baritone saxophonist- and one of the most famous composer-bandleaders in all of Jazz.
Charlap adds that he feels that the Washingtons have the potential to be one of the great bass and drum combinations in Jazz history, on a par with Doug Watkins and Art Blakey, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian.
