  Mark Clifton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark Clifton (1906 - 1963) was an American author and businessman.
Clifton began publishing in May of 1952 with the story "What Have I Done?".
Clifton worked as personnel manager during his life and interviewed close to 100,000 people, which formed much of his attitude about the delusions people place on themselves, and the greatness they are capable of.

During his last six years, Clifton published only four or five of his short stories and the last two novels.

He was named the U.S. Army's 1991 Active Army Drill Sergeant of the Year at the end of a four-day meet at Fort Monroe, Va. Clifton, 26, beat out 9,9, regular Army drill sergeants culled from the 9,000 drill sergeants in basic training units across the country for the Army's top honors.
Clifton went on to attend the Army's primary leadership course, the basic noncommissioned officer course, and the drill sergeant school.
