I remember when I was young (and JFK was president), Rose Kennedy appeared in TV ads identifying herself as mother of a mentally retarded child and talking about the need to help the mentally retarded; I've always had a soft spot in my heart for her since then.
She was, prior to her lobotomy, known as the most attractive of the Kennedy girls, was socially active, was formally presented to the Queen at Bickingham Palace and was a tutor at a special needs school in England.
