Bio   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
True, Seymour was for fifteen years the face and the voice of Hunters and Collectors, but now that he's going out as a solo artist, Seymour himself accedes, it's as if he's starting from scratch all over again.
Naturally it was a challenge for Seymour to step outside what was becoming the confines of Hunters and Collectors, but ultimately his confidence was greatly boosted by the response to King Without a Clue, which put him back on airwaves the Hunters hadn't graced for years.
Seymour believes that great songs create a mood, a space of their own, and that they take the listener on a journey that has a beginning, middle and end, and just as the individual songs on One Eyed Man all do that, so too does the album as a whole.

Mark Seymour: King Without A Clue
After 18 successful years with Australian band Hunters & Collectors, singer-songwriter Mark Seymour last year launched his solo career with album 'King Without A Clue', and a subsequent tour to promote it.
Mark was the lead singer, the main songwriter and guitarist, and was responsible for hits such as 'Blindeye', 'The Slab', 'When The River Runs Dry', 'Talking To A Stranger', 'Holy Grail' and the well loved 'Throw Your Arms Around Me', which was once proposed as a replacement for the current Australian national anthem.
Apart for his work with Hunters and Collectors, Mark has also written songs for Vika and Linda Bull, and for the soundtrack to 1992 movie Garbo he wrote the single 'Hey Boys'.

Without HandC's collective lungs to inflate these songs, Seymour is left to survive on either his own fervid presence or refined songwriting skills, and I might have guessed he'd incline towards the former, but I'd have been wrong.
The chiming "The Ghost of Vainglory" sounds in parts like it could be Mark's version of Extreme's pretty songs, but the chorus adds amiably shuffling drums and a touch of country twang.
The ending makes me think, briefly, that Mark and I have different ideas of his strengths, as he opts to go out with "Until the Day They Die", a dubious-marriage song heavy on narration and light on melody.
