Merlin's Mount is in the grounds of Marlborough College, only a 100 yards off the A4, but partly concealed by the college chapel.

Marlborough (pronounced "Maulbruh" - /ˈmɔːlbɹə/ in IPA) is a market town in the English county of Wiltshire on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath.
William I established the neighbouring Savernake Forest as a favourite Royal hunting ground and Marlborough Castle became a Royal residence.
In 2004, Marlborough celebrated 800 years of its Town Charter, among the celebrations was a street play by the Marlborough Players entitled "Wheels of Time" and a visit from HRH Prince Charles.

Marlborough is a country market town with a very wide and long high street with a church at both ends, with two or three hotels and more than an adequate number of pubs scattered in-between.
The church at the west of the high street, St Peter and St Paul’s, dates from the mid to late 15th century, and the Norman church of St Mary’s, situated behind the town hall at the east end of the high street is said to date back to as early as the 11th century.
The famous Marlborough College, founded in 1845, and its grounds are a prominent feature of the town.

The parish of Preshute, which surrounded Marlborough until the early 20th century, was a Saxon Royal estate that was taken over by William I. In the Domesday Book it states that Marlborough was held by the King and that from the third penny the yield would be £4.
Electricity was supplied to Marlborough College in 1924, was extended to the Town Hall in 1924, and to the rest of the town in 1926.
In 1974 Marlborough ceased to be a borough and became a parish council under Kennet District Council.

The Indian Plantation of nearly ten square miles was annexed to Marlborough in 1716, and from this and a small area of original Marlborough territory the Town of Hudson was set off in 1866.
Marlborough in 1660 adjoined Lancaster on the northwest, and the Indian Town on the north, but in every other way was bounded by unassigned land of the Colony.
Part of Lancaster eventually became Berlin, so that today the 22 square miles that comprise the City of Marlborough are bounded by Sudbury and Framingham on the east, Southborough on the south, Northborough on the southwest, Berlin on the northwest and Hudson on the north.
