BLACK-HOODED ORIOLE 12 (Black-headed Oriole) Oriolus xanthornus Found only at Chitwan NP and around Temple Tiger Lodge where it was frequently heard and occasionally seen.
MAROON ORIOLE 14 Oriolus traillii Two juveniles were seen on Pulchowki Mtn.
All the rest were seen around Fishtail Lodge and in the forest behind the lodge where it seemed surprisingly common.

Uthai hears a surprise and we go off the highway and after some time find a male Green Cochoa that pops out of the mist to perch on a branch nearby just above eye level giving us stunning views.
Over three and a half days we bird the traditional sites of Doi Ang Khang including "Paradise Valley" where we find expected Crested Finchbills, Red-faced Liocichla, Maroon Oriole, a fruiting tree with Wedge-tailed Pigeon and pine trees with female Common Rosefinch and Phylloscpus warblers.
We don't know whether to look up or down as trees are full of birds.

The tactic was successful, as wild animals rare elsewhere in Taiwan could now easily be seen roaming the park.
A number of unique birds are also found in the area, including the Indian Black Eagle, Hodgson's Hawk Eagle, Tawny Fish-Owl, Brown Wood Owl, Mandarin Duck, Swinhoe's Pheasant, Maroon Oriole, and Large Cuckoo Shrike.
Needless to say, other forest birds are also abundant.

Species recorded here other than the Whistling Thrush were Plumbeous Redstart, Blue Magpie, Varied Tit, Maroon Oriole, and Rusty-cheeked Scimitar-Babbler.
Access to the area may be problematical as there is a checkpoint along the road to the trout farm and I’m not entirely sure of the formalities as we were with Wayne's teacher Dr Waltner, but certainly involved showing our passports.
