The 3790ha farm is owned by two local Maori incorporations, Mangahauini Inc and Tokomaru K5B Inc. It has 2146 effective hectares of grazing in two blocks, one of 539ha including 55ha of flats at Hikuwai south of Tokomaru Bay, the other 1607ha in the hills behind Tokomaru Bay.
While Marotiri has benefited from higher market prices in the past couple of years, there has been a massive boost in production per hectare from 180kg in 1997-98 to 297kg this year.

In general, the Austral Islands are poorly known, and Maria and Marotiri have never been properly investigated by an ornithologist.
An unidentified Acrocephalus was reported from Raivavae in 1968, but was not found in 1990 (Seitre and Seitre 1991), and could therefore have been a vagrant.
