		In 2002, the Marousi Roma were asked to vacate their settlement because the 2004 Olympic Games Committee had decided to construct a parking lot and road enlargements.
		Initially, the Marousi municipal authority came to an agreement with the community, which stipulated that adequate compensation and resettlement would be provided to the community in exchange for vacating the land they had been living on for decades.
		Although the Roma community of Marousi honoured their part of the agreement, it soon became evident that the Municipal Authority was not prepared to implement its various obligations under the arrangement.
