  Alabama Counties: Marshall County
Marshall County was created in 1836 Jan. 9 and named to honor Chief Justice John Marshall.
The county is located in the northeastern part of the state on the Appalachian ridge.
The county seat was established in 1836 at Claysville, moved to Marshall in 1838, to Warrenton in 1841, and finally located at Guntersville in 1848.

  Marshall History
The county is bounded on the north by Kittson and Roseau counties, on the east by Beltrami.County, on the south by Polk and Pennington counties, and on the west by the Red River which separates it from North Dakota.
Marshall County was in a direct line from the Selkirk Red River Settlement to the Mississippi River and one of the early trails passed through the county.
The act to establish the county in 1879 directed the governor to appoint three qualified electors to serve as a board of county commissioners which was given authority to appoint all county officers, except the clerk of the district court, who was to be appointed by the judge of that court.

The majority of the county lies in a major corn area; that is 40% or more of the crop income is derived from corn and less that 39% of the land is devoted to pasture with the rest of the land taken up in diversified farming.

MARSHALL COUNTY is in the first tier of counties south of Nebraska, and the fourth, west of the Missouri River.
It is bounded on the north by Gage and Pawnee Counties (Nebraska); on the east by Nemaha County; on the south by Pottawatomie and Riley Counties; and on the west by Washington County.
Marshall operated his ferry here under a charter received from the Territorial Legislature, in which he was allowed to charge the gold-seekers, Mormons, adventurers, and all Western pilgrims that crossed the Blue at that point, the sum of $5 per wagon.
