Martial Arts Planet - So, what are you?
In the opening chapters he describes the difference between a Martial Artist and a Martialist.
Martialist: one who's life is their training, somebody who can cut their opponent down without thinking.
Martial Artist: someone who trains for health/self defence, the taking of a life is at best an extreme action done only when nothing else can be done.

The names are different, mostly the methodology to train is a bit different, however once that is understood the action is the same.
I am also a martialist and a realist, recognizing most of what is shown, taught and understood in the martial arts community doesn’t work and will only get the practitioner hurt.
I to am a martialist in the sense that teaching realistic combat skills is one of my biggest priorities, however, never neglecting to also include the deeper bio-structural elements that we need to maximize our internal and external bio-motor abilities.

The Martialist is not devoted to guns, knives, or martial arts weaponry specifically, but we cover all of these tools in the pursuit of self-defense.
We blend everything and anything useful in a total theory and consistent philosophy of force and its use, acquiring components of our doctrine from sources ranging from the traditional to the contemporary to the wildly eclectic.
The staff of The Martialist works hard to bring you different perspectives on self-defense.

He couldn't enjoy the taste, even though he could taste them, so he always ate something the martialist found sickening.
It had been a long evening, and though he could not feel it directly, he knew that his body was tired.
It was extremely irritating that he could not control such devices, but the martialist connected to the parasite was the only part of his mind that had access to mentally controlled magical triggers.

In this book, Phil Elmore, publisher of The Martialist: The Magazine For Those Who Fight Unfairly, outlines a basic curriculum of empty-hand self-defense.
No system is the ultimate system and no book can truly teach you what you must do to fight another human being, but Shorthand Empty Hand gives you the conceptual framework from which to approach fighting with your bare hands.
Phil Elmore is the publisher of The Martialist: The Magazine For Those Who Fight Unfairly.

I recently wrote an article for The Martialist in counterpoint to another aticle reviewing a katana as a possible home defence weapon.
Also bear in mind that this little essay was written for the average reader of The Martialist, who is generally not a JSA person - thus I strived to keep it simple and understandable.
If it's made available in the Martialist's free content section, it would be something I would link to in posts answering questions from noobs.

Bullshido: No BS Martial Arts - Phil Elmore and the Martialist
I am a newbie, to MA and to this board, so I will rely on my betters to supply experienced opinions.
Here's what strikes me -- how certain he is. It's always been my experience that people who are deadly certain about anything, especially a lot of things, are doing it because they like the feeling of believing they are experts in stuff.
1) He constantly refers to himself as "publisher (of the Martialist) Phil Elmore".

I've been readind the threads in here about the Martialist, Pax Baculum, Phil Elmore, etc. but I still don't understand what all the fighting is about.
The editors of The Martialist and most of the participants on Pax Baculum do not like “Sports-based” martial arts.
The site (the martialist) doesn't seem McDojoish - most of the equipment reviews and articles are objective and well written.

Bullshido: No BS Martial Arts - Phil's Bullshido FAQ
The Martialist is devoted to realistic self-preservation and not to whatever ego gratification one derives from competing in sporting bouts of the type favored by MMA enthusiasts.
The Bullshido.com FAQ incorrectly describes Pax Baculum (and, I suppose, The Martialist and me) as somehow other than "up front about the evidence that exists today." What these incredibly ignorant, hostile, and childish individuals fail to realize is that a failure to agree with them is not a failure of honesty or integrity.
An emphasis on factors other than those they choose to emphasize is not a scam or a fraud; it is a difference of opinion and a correspondingly different approach.
