Martin and his wife, Jill, are finalizing details to turn over 333 acres in Bayfield County to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a state natural area.
Martin and his wife also have given more than $300,000 to the Madison Audubon Society, money that is being used to buy more than 100 acres for prairie restoration projects in Jefferson and Columbia counties.
Martin is an expert on the artificial lure industry of the early 20th century and is writing a book about the period and the impresarios who tried to hook the nation's first generation of sport fishermen.

At 6'10" Bayfield was one of the tallest players in the history of the game and he used this natural gift to his full advantage, developing into one of England's most potent forward weapons in the 1990s.
