Hellhammer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Steve Warrior had been replaced by former Schizo bassist Martin Eric Ain, a change which marked the beginning of a serious and radical transformation in the band's music and lyrics.
These changes were ultimately responsible for Fischer's and Ain's increasing feeling of being limited within the confines of the purposely primitive Hellhammer vehicle.
By then, the band had already broken up, but the recording was one of the original fl/death metal recordings, and spawned a legion of imitators, playing doom metal, Norwegian fl metal and industrial metal.

Lyrically, Fischer and Ain depicted civilizations crumbling into decay, capturing the parallels between the corrosive and dark nature of a year's concluding seasons and the recurring collapse of human empires.
Considered the "elder statesmen" of innovative metal, Fischer and Ain saw their uncompromising conceptual framework and intricate instrumental orchestration blossom into an influence for several cutting-edge genres of today's modern metal, while Celtic Frost have been name-dropped by fellow artists from Satyricon to Creed to Marilyn Manson.
Moreover, Ain and Fischer reanimated their old production company, Prowling Death Records, which in 1983 had already released the Hellhammer demos, to finance the new Celtic Frost album and retain full control of the project by the group up to the day of the new album's release.

Most assumed the band was long gone until co-founders Tom Gabriel Fischer and Martin Eric Ain got together several years ago to remaster those pivotal early albums.
The album, which includes a complex and multilayered centerpiece song "Synagoga Satanae" that is almost 14 minutes long, is deeply influenced by personal struggles Fischer and Ain experienced as they entered middle age, as well as their sometimes volatile relationship.
It required Fischer and Ain to live up to their legacy and strengthen their friendship.

St. Louis - Music - Re-Creation of the Wicked
In the beginning was the word — and the word was pronounced "Keltic." Martin Eric Ain, bassist for Celtic Frost, speaks beautiful English with a lilting Swiss accent that requires just a bit of concentration to decipher.
But there is no mistaking that Ain pronounces the name of his reconstituted band with a hard "K." Which makes sense, as Celtic Frost are the prototypical fl metal band, the template for all things flened and grim and thrashy; no gentle sibilance for the 'Frost, not even in its name.
When Ain and Fischer reunited in the studio to remaster Celtic Frost's early catalogue for a proper CD release in the late '90s, the two realized they both felt the urge to get the band back together and continue what they had started as teenagers.

Amazingly, Celtic Frost had yet to play their first concert, so after putting the finishing touches on the Emperor's Return EP in April 1985, they performed a warm-up show in their hometown of Zurich, then set out to tour across Germany and Austria.
With the band growing from strength to strength, Warrior decided to replace the increasingly unmotivated Ain with bassist Dominic Steiner for their second album, To Mega Therion.
Its cover graced by original artwork from acclaimed Swiss artist H.R. Giger (of Alien fame), the album furthered the band's growing reputation and was followed by their first North American performance at the World War III metal festival in Montreal.
