Martin Galway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martin Galway (born January 3, 1966, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is one of the best known composers of music for the Commodore 64 sound chip, the SID soundchip.
Galway is best known for his soaring, anthemic compositions, for making heavy use of the SID chip's ring modulation feature, and for compostions which made unconventional changes to SID register settings while notes were playing (producing his trademark echoey sound).
Martin has said that he will never remake his songs, as they were made for the SID chip and would sound wrong on real instruments.

Especially for this project, Martin Galway's old Commodore-64 was dug out and used to play back his original tunes, which were then digitally mastered for the CD.
Not only that, but especially for this project, some of Martin Galway's old C64 disks were found deep in some drawers, untouched since the days when he used them to store his music projects on.
On these disks were found several pieces of music that has never been heard before, as well as some "early sketch" versions of songs that became famous in different versions later.

And after 71 minutes Galway’s agony was completed when Bennis nipped in to take advantage of hesitation in the home defence, dispossessing Brendan O’Connor and shooting right into the net.
But Galway settled well after that and were back in the game after 23 minutes when Ger Crossley picked up possession and drove a low 25 yard shot to the corner of the net, his first goal in the Galway colours.
The home side lost practically all of their impetus in the second half and the three goal barrage knocked the stuffing out of their hopes of victory in what was their 700th League game and also inflicted on them their worst home of the season.

After the critically acclaimed Nexus 6581 album Reyn Ouwehand, a former member of the famed Maniacs of Noise C64 music group, turned to Martin Galway for inspiration with his next SID remix album - with a twist.
Galway's tunes naturally lend themselves to ambient covers, not thumping rhythms, so I got very curious about how Reyn managed to tackle this challenge.
The subtle and not so subtle hints on the album cover provide great visual clues that this CD is intimately tied to the renaissance of the Commodore-64: the cover is the color of the breadbox C64 with rainbow colored lines running across the top.

SID CDs: preserving that sound as it should be...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Galway's SIDs recorded from Galway's SID chip, fascinating new insights from Martin himself about most of his classic tracks, and the final release of three unreleased tunes from the long-lost Ocean game "Streethawk": including one six minute long high score tune best described as "Miami Vice meets Parallax Stroll".
Of all the composers of the time, Martin Galway was the one who used the full facilities of the SID the most: from the combined waveforms (undocumented SID "feature"), to clever and artistic filter use, to use of the "volume register click" track to produce a sampled track.
Indeed, Martin is one of the few composers to use "filter saturation" creatively, to create a "down and dirty" funky distortion in the sound: emulation nor Hardsid currently emulates this crucial part of, for example, Miami Vice and Wizball Bonus Level 1.
