Martin Gélinas was originally drafted seventh overall in the 1988 Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.
In 1997-98, Martin was traded on January 3 with Kirk McLean to the Carolina Hurricanes for Sean Burke, Geoff Sanderson and Enrico Ciccone.
It was Martin who scored the overtime game-winning goal in the game-six 2-1 victory over the Maple Leafs to give the Hurricanes their first berth into the Stanley Cup final.

Martin Gélinas (born June 5, 1970 in Shawninigan, Quebec, Canada) is a professional ice hockey player.
Gelinas is almost unique in NHL history, having scored three playoff series-clinching goals in the same year (the only other player to do so was Ken Linseman).
Martin Gelinas scored in overtime to send them to their first Stanley Cup final, against the Detroit Red Wings, thought to be the prohibitive favorite all year.
