TorontoSun.com - Lorrie Goldstein - Harper vs Martin: Why a double standard?
After all, if Martin doesn't deliver a majority government in the next election (which current polls suggest he will fail to do) the odds are every bit as likely that the Liberals will dump him as they are that the Conservatives will dump Harper, should he fail to win at least a Tory minority.
I don't recall the punditocracy being quite as outraged over that drivel when it was coming from Martin, even though what he was really saying, given present party standings, was that any attempt to bring down the Liberals was pro-separatist because, by definition, it would need the Bloc to succeed.
Martin, however, is most often described in terms of having been a "disappointment" as prime minister.

 TorontoSun.com - Lorrie Goldstein - Martin's Hail Mary pass
Considering that the Liberals have never proposed this idea during their entire 12 years in office - and Martin has never offered it up before as prime minister - it was an astounding thing to let fly at this point in the campaign.
Of course, what Martin and the Liberals will now argue for the final two weeks of the campaign is that Harper's refusal to immediately agree to Martin's proposal means he has a, you guessed it, "hidden agenda" to use the Constitution's notwithstanding clause to declare same-sex marriages illegal.
What last night's stunt by Martin revealed is that for the next two weeks, the Liberal campaign is going to throw everything they can think of at Harper and the surging Conservatives and pray some of it sticks.
