The latter was so pleased with him that, when he afterwards ascended the Polish throne, he entrusted Kromer with many high official duties, and in order to enable him to receive promotion to even higher dignities the king elevated him in 1552 to the rank of a nobleman.
In this history Kromer showed himself a keen critic, with a graceful style and polished Latinity, and he was particularly successful in setting forth clearly and lucidly the intricate political relations of Poland with the neighbouring states.
After the death of Hosius in 1579 Kromer was made Bishop of Ermland, and held that see until he died in 1589.

 Marcin Kromer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For his service to the Polish king in 1552 he was ennobled and granted a coat of arms.
Marcin Kromer and Stanislaus Hosius (Stanisław Hozjusz) are the two bishops most instrumental in causing Warmian diocese to remain Catholic during a time of major conversions to Protestantism.
Both Kromer and Hosius left many German language records of their speeches and sermons from their episcopacies in Warmia.

Kromer was charged with diplomatic missions to Vienna, Rome, and to the Council of Trent.
In 1570 he was appointed by Cardinal (then Bishop) Stanislaus Hosius as coadjutor in the Diocese of Ermland, where together with the latter he wrote popular works in explanation and defence of the Catholic Faith.

Martin Gallus lived in Poland between Ilro and 1135.
For instance, there are no bilini or legendary poems, such as are found among the Russians, although many passages in the ancient chroniclers from their poetical colouring seem to be borrowed from old songs or legends, and the first verses of some of these compositions have been preserved.
Besides the Latin histories of Wapowski and Gwagnin (Guagnini, of Italian origin), we have the first historical work in Polish by Martin Bielski, a Protestant, viz.

The earliest works by Polish authors in the British Museum were books written in Latin and published both in Poland and in Western Europe.
They included many distinguished authors: Nicolas Copernicus, Martin Kromer, Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski and others.
Among them is the first book in Polish in the British Museum: the Psalms translated by Maciej Rybinski and published in Gdansk in 1632.

In XVI century the castle becomes a home of two Warmian bishops and a great writers: Jan Dantyszek (1538, 1541) and Marcin Kromer (1580).
In 1758 a new drive to the castle is built.
