I'm guessing that the "Mirror of Reflection" portion of the sketch was actually written for the real Prince (as the reflection), and that for some reason he declined to participate.
The opener, with Steve Martin beating up Alec Baldwin to keep him from tying his hosting record, and then the result of his having taken Viagra to do Kelly Rippa, was the funniest opening in YEARS, and would have held it's own against any SNL opening in the show's heyday in the 70s.
Prince has a HUGE amount of pride in his work and the integrity of it.

Oprah/Martin: I know Steve Martin was the host, and it had elements of fun in it, but this whole thing could have doubled the humor with just a walk on by Jon Lovitz.
I wonder if Steve Martin had anything to do with the writing - there were at least two sketches broadcasting that he'll do anything for money and he's getting paid to be on the show, and the opening premise was that he did it for pride.

Actually, a lot of people think that Martin used to be a player, but nope, he's like Benjamin Franklin to the presidents (just because he's on the $100 bill doesn't mean he was ever president, y'know).
Prince will be the musical guest (I'm trying to think of some sort of Prince-like squeal to express happiness but I can't figure out how to spell it).
With both Steve Martin and Prince on the same show there is probably a fairly good guarantee that there will be a larger viewing audience than normal.

This is a biblical that sidestep the plagues and pestilence and throws in silly sidekicks to boot.
The strongest non-visual element of "Prince of Egypt" is the emotional bond between Moses and Rameses, who is now Pharaoh and refuses to release the slaves (until after the wrath of god plagues and pestilence montage).
"The Prince of Egypt" is not inherently flawed, but its attempt to conform to the precepts of the family cartoon category while posturing as some kind of high brow epic leaves it coming up short in both regards.
