 BASC - Government Ministers give go-ahead for new Labour Party charters for shooting & fishing
The current Labour manifesto states that the party “will not place restrictions on the sports of angling and shooting” but this new initiative will go much further in setting out measures that can be taken to promote participation in both sports and to highlight the social and environmental benefit of angling and shooting.
Mr Salter has organised three angling summits in the House of Commons over the last two years where senior figures in angling were able to raise issues directly with Sports Minister Richard Caborn, Rural Affairs Minister Alun Michael and Fisheries Minister Ben Bradshaw.
Early submissions for both the angling and shooting charters have been prepared by representatives of both sports in conjunction with Mr Salter and are currently being evaluated by officials at both DCMS and DEFRA with a view to publication of a final draft in the autumn.
