Martin Sheen (born Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez August 3, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio) is an American actor, best known for his roles in the film Apocalypse Now and, most recently, as President Josiah Bartlet on the television drama The West Wing.
Sheen with Helen Chavez, widow of Cesar Chavez.
Sheen is known for his robust support of liberal political causes, and has been arrested 63 times for protesting against issues such as United States military actions.

Sheen said he considered studying in Galway after meeting O Muircheartaigh at a university fundraiser in Los Angeles last year, and decided to do it after receiving an honorary doctorate from NUI Galway in April.
Sheen, who attended high school in his native Dayton, Ohio, has said he deliberately flunked his entrance exam to the University of Dayton so that he could pursue his dream of acting in New York City instead.
